Trip to New Mexico-Day 15

The title of this post should actually read, Trip Back to North Carolina--Day that felt like 15 days!

We had to get up at 5am so we could be to the airport by 6am.  We were flying with miles/points and were limited on times, so this is what we got stuck with.  Kaitlyn's always been easy to wake up early.  She either just goes back to sleep, or wakes up and starts talking.  Kinsey has ALWAYS been one to sleep in.  This can be nice, but it makes for a grumpy girl when she has to get up early.  She was tired, and cold, and the sun hurt her eyes, and she couldn't walk, and her finger hurt, etc.  But we made it.  Thankfully we had 3 adults to 2 kids for the first little bit.  We got my luggage checked in and said our goodbyes :(

We got in line to go through security.  We had made it through with no problems in Raleigh, and figured we would be just fine in Albuquerque as well.  But something on the stroller set the machines off and we were directed to a security station and I was told everything had to be hand checked and I was going to have to be patted down, (they no longer do a full pat down on children, thank goodness!) something I don't ever need to experience again.  After awhile, they decided we weren't terrorists and they let us go.  We made it on the plane with minutes to spare.

The girls ate a nutritious breakfast of pop tarts and crackers and Kinsey slept for about 5 minutes.  I explained how our tablet worked to a stewardess (steward? He was a guy, I don't know the politically correct term) who seemed to have no idea what it was.  How do you fly on planes every day and not know what they are??  That flight went fine and we landed and got off with no problems.

I had gotten a text message early in the morning saying my second flight had been delayed (WHY couldn't it have been my first flight??).  I already had a long layover (we were in Dallas) and I wasn't sure what to do with our time.  I took the girls to the bathroom, changed their clothes, did their hair, brushed their teeth and then we had a snack (not in the bathroom).  When that was done, and the friend they made got on her plane, we went to the moving walkway.  And moved.  And walked.  Over and over and over.  Our flight was delayed again.  We got some muffins.  We did some more moving and walking.  When I got home I saw a video about how Crocs can get stuck in escalators and shuddered when I remembered that both of my girls were wearing Crocs that day-AND standing right by the side of the walkway.  Yay for no major injuries in the airport!

We finally got on the plane.  Kaitlyn fell asleep and Kinsey colored.  I read a book!  Imagine that!

We landed in Raleigh and felt the blast of humidity and almost got back on a plane to New Mexico.  We were happy to be home though and be a family of 4 again.  Jason admitted that he'd only made the bed once while we were gone (the day we came back home) but the house was clean and dinner was ready.  We went to bed exhausted and slept in the next day!  Thanks to everyone that made our trip so fun!

I'm finally done blogging about the trip!  On to normal life.  Except that I'm 2 months behind...
