Outer Banks

We've been planning on going to the Outer Banks this fall ever since last fall when we couldn't go because Kaitlyn was too new, too little, and too sick. I'm sooo glad we were able to make it happen. The water was still warm enough to swim and it wasn't blazing hot. It wasn't insanely humid and the prices had already dropped for the off-season. Really, September was perfect. I don't know why anyone goes to the beach in the middle of the summer!

We found a beautiful beach house that we shared with two other families. We had 5 little girls between all of us and sometimes the dramatics were a little much, but overall it was excellent. Kinsey told me her favorite part was "Swimming and playing with Eliza."

I tried to narrow down the pictures and was quite successful, despite the fact that there are still 22 of them...

Kaity Bug, trying to escape

Ready for the beach!

Before we left for the beach, Kaitlyn came down with a bad croupy cough. Kinsey had it the week before and I was just waiting for Kaitlyn to catch it from her. I took her to the pediatricians on Wednesday (we left of Thursday) hoping to get her taken care of so that everything would be good for the trip. They gave her a steroid shot and told me to buy a humidifier. We thought we'd be good. By Friday, though, she was much worse. Our pediatricians said to take her to the ER. So, my beach trip started out waiting to see yet another doctor. They tested her for RSV and the flu (both came back negative), gave her a breathing treatment (she was wheezy and not breathing well), and did a chest x-ray to check for pneumonia (she looked fine). She ended up being diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and croup and they sent her home with an inhaler. She perked up a few days later and is pretty much back to normal now, thank goodness.

Poor sick baby

Sleeping while waiting for the x-ray-
seriously can we just take moment to admire her eyelashes?

Cute feet

A long nap and a trip to the beach cheered her right up

The beach at Kill Devil Hills

The girls all loved the sand. We also had amazing kite flying success.

The next day we took a day trip to Ocracoke Island. I'd never been before but I'd heard great things about it and I wasn't disappointed. It was beautiful, not busy, and completely charming. It is a very small island and you have to take a ferry to get there. We really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back for a longer period of time soon!

Right when it was our turn to board the ferry, Jason tried to turn the car on and discovered that our battery had died. We had to jump the car and we missed our turn on the ferry. Dumb car. So what else was there to do but get ice cream while we waited for the next ferry to come?

Finally on the ferry! In red sparkle shoes of course.

Leaving Hatteras Island

More sand time

The lovely beach-there were a few massive waves that almost washed away our food, shoes, and children (not at all a joke). We finally moved our stuff WAY up into the sand dunes and were fine.

Gigi, seriously this girl cannot take a bad picture!

Kinsey's favorite place in the world-she LOVES the beach

You can see Kaitlyn's scoot marks in the sand :)

Eating dinner during sunset right on the water--fish for some, quesadillas for others (named Kim)

It was such a perfect trip! Hopefully we can go again next fall :)

Okay, okay, okay... I'm inspired. I'll get going on my post. But I'm not sure if I can keep it to 22 photos... we got over a hundred...

It WAS the perfect trip. I'm still waiting for the Kinsey/Eliza post that tells us about her best friend/worst enemy. Those two are such a riot.

So, there can't possibly be any connection, but we had to take Everett to the ER for a croupy cough too! What is going on with Kaitlyn and Everett? I'm glad everything was okay, but man, I know how long you were there. Sorry about that.

I went camping the first of the summer and we had 7 little girls all around 6 or 7 years old. Dramatic is an understatment for a group like that. Sound like it was a lot of fun. There comes a day when you look at your 17 year old and wish they were 5 again.
