Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn's made HUGE strides in gross motor skills lately. She is walking, running, jumping, stepping and pretty much everything else a "typical" 2 year old should be doing. She still has muscle tone issues, and her balance isn't always great, but overall she is doing excellent. She still wears ankle braces, and probably will for awhile yet, but does well without them too.

In July, our PT asked me if we wanted to continue services. Kaitlyn just barely qualified for services, but we had been approved through February. We decided to continue for a few more months with a focus on strength and balance.

However...Kaitlyn quit cooperating in PT a few weeks ago. She knows all the tricks, and was hard to distract while the PT did her thing. After a few frustrating sessions, I brought up the idea of stopping PT sooner rather than later. Her PT wholeheartedly agreed that Kaitlyn was pretty much on track and that there wasn't a lot she could do for her anymore. We brainstormed a few ideas of things I could do with her that would be just as beneficial (or maybe more so) than an hour of PT (such as swimming, going to the park, etc.).

One thing that I've been wanting to do with Kaitlyn is a parent/child gymnastics class. Kinsey does gymnastics once a week and lately Kaitlyn's been trying to follow her into the gym. We did a trial class at the gym this week and Kaitlyn LOVED LOVED LOVED it. She jumped in head first (literally) in all the activities, tried to sneak over to Kinsey's class, and laughed and giggled the whole time. She did really well. Her teacher asked me over and over if Kaitlyn had taken gymnastics before. I didn't mention the 2 years of PT :)

I'm so glad she enjoyed it. I just wish the state would pay for gymnastics class like they did for PT...
