NICU Follow-Up

Kaitlyn had her NICU follow-up a few weeks ago. We were supposed to go in July when she turned 1 but that appointment got canceled and it took them two months to get us in again...

Anyways, we saw a slew of people at this appointment. We saw a general pediatrician, a speech language pathologist, an occupational therapist, a doctor from the NICU, a nutritionist, and an audiologist. We also got labs done. Phew.

Overall, Kaitlyn is doing amazing. Everyone was very impressed with how curious, social, and attentive she is. She jabbered away and even showed off some of her new words.

Our biggest concerns right now are her gross motor skills (mostly her lack of strength in her lower body) and weight gain. She has gained very little weight (only about 1 pound) in the past 4-5 months. They had us meet with the nutritionist because of this, but I was able to convince them to give us a few more months before they refer us to a gastroenterologist. She is finally enjoying eating and I think her weight will pick up soon, and I really don't want to add anything else to the mix. In the end, the nutritionist told me to give Kaitlyn vitamins with iron each day and feed her lots of 'healthy' fats, like peanut butter, cheese, ect.

They also had us see the audiologist for a hearing test which was pointless because we go in every 3 months, but whatever. It is good to know that she is still hearing fine.

We are so grateful with her progress. She really is such a miracle. I spend half my days just staring at her, wondering at her strength and determination.

I think I'll keep her forever.

She sounds like she's worth keeping forever too. :)

That picture of her is so gorgeous. So nice to hear that she is doing amazingly, overall. That makes the news about little worrisome parts easier to handle. We love her too!
