Comments

Kaity Bug creates quite the stir when we go out. A lot of the comments we get are nice, things like, "Oh, she is beautiful!" or "She's SO alert!" or "Look at those eyes, such pretty blue eyes." We get other comments too though, ones like, "Oh my, such a tiny baby," or "Was she a preemie?" or "Wow, how old is your baby? Really? Wow, she's small. My baby was huge at that age!" My favorite comment so far came the other day from my cashier at Harris Teeter. We were chatting away about my girls when she asked me how old Kaitlyn was. I told her and she of course said, "Really? She is sooo small. Was she a preemie?" I don't really like getting into the whole CMV thing with perfect strangers so I usually just say, "Yes, she was a little early" and then leave it at that. However, this women was nice and she had just told me that her baby had suffered a stroke in utero. Sensing a kindred spirit, I gave her my brief, 30 second rundown on Kaitlyn's situation. She just looked at me in utter amazement and said, "Wow. (pause) Well, is she ever going to grow?" Seriously? This woman's baby had stroke! Kind of a huge thing. You'd think she would understand a bit more about little babies and big problems...

I'm glad random people take interest in our life but it does get sort of old. In case anyone needs proof that my baby is growing and does eat, I present the following:

Coming home from the hospital--tiny, about 4.5 lbs

Today--huge, about 13 lbs

Look at those chubby cheeks <3 So beautiful! I'm sorry you get ignorance sometimes... I tend just to tell people he was early, and sick, and leave it at that.

I think she is precious and very healthy looking. People are stupid sometimes. My son uses a wheelchair and people are always staring at him and saying "bless his heart", it makes me crazy!

Adorableness comes in all sizes! The comments won't stop though. Korven is almost two and weighed 20 pounds yesterday! I excitedly told a lady I found out our sons were the same age and asked a lady if she wanted to get together so our sons could play together and she responded "Oh, my sons actually almost two." (Korven is actually a week older than him!) Oh well!
