Tubes

After way too many ear infections, countless rounds of antibiotics and many failed hearing tests (due to fluid), Miss Kaitlyn finally got tubes in her ears! We waited an extra month to get in with our trusted ENT and are very pleased with the results. Kaitlyn and I had to be at UNC at 6am on the day of her surgery. Kaitlyn woke up as soon as I put her in the car, and jabbered the whole way to the hospital. She started to get grumpy after we checked in, but Dora on the tablet solved most of her problems. The procedure was quick and easy. Kaitlyn had some problems coming out of anesthesia. She woke up (grumpily) but then started acting very weird. She was very unsettled, but wouldn't respond to me. She was awake, but wasn't at the same time. She whimpered and cried and squirmed, but wouldn't wake up or go back to sleep. The nurse assured me that it was normal, and was called emergence delirium. She said it was common with ear tubes, because the surgery is so short. They give them medicine to counter it, but sometimes it doesn't work. After about 20 minutes, Kaitlyn fell completely asleep. She slept for 4 hours, through being discharged, loaded up in the carseat, and driving home. She woke up, said, "Good morning Mom!" and then asked for breakfast :) She's been fine ever since. And hasn't had a single ear infection thanks to her Carolina Blue ear tubes!

We've made the trip down this elevator many, many times!

She was NOT a fan of the itchy hospital gowns and very unfashionable socks!

Dora saved the day!

Sleeping off the anesthesia

Did I mention that Kinsey woke up at 2am throwing up? It was a loooong day.
