School Carnival

We are all so excited (and a little nervous) that Kinsey will be starting kindergarten this coming school year. It was such a process deciding where she would go! Our school district comprises of our whole county--and it is a BIG county! This is good because we have tons of school options, but complicates things for the same reason. There are magnet schools and charter schools, in addition to the "regular schools." We applied to a magnet school and got put on the waiting list. I really loved the school, it was a fine arts school and the kids have elective classes that you choose, and they try a few every year. Kinsey could have taken dance, drama, art, music, etc. Ultimately we decided that the commute to the school was a little too long for a kindergartener. We applied for 5 charter schools, but didn't get into any. They all determine who gets in based on a lottery system, but younger siblings of students already in the school get priority so there are actually very few spots for everyone else. We didn't even have an easy time decided on a "regular" school either. This year the school district went with a choice plan, where you pick your top 5 choices from a list of schools near you and then they place you based on proximity, older siblings, etc. We had 3 really good, really close schools that we were deciding between and it was a hard decision! We finally picked one for our first choice, picked our track preference (it was a year round school) and waited. We were so excited and relieved that she got into the school (and on the best track schedule) with no problems.

All that to introduce this post! Gosh. Her school has a carnival every year as a fundraiser. They invited all the rising kindergartens so we took the girls and had such a good time! They had bounce house, face painting, food, crafts, games, prizes, etc. Kinsey loved it and left very excited to start kindergarten! She starts at the beginning of August but would start tomorrow if it were up to her!

They had this giant bubble machine which looks fun, but Kinsey kept slipping and she didn't like it. She told me, "I don't want to do that again until I am older and can handle it!

Poor girl was so disappointment when I told her that the bounce houses were just there for the carnival. She thought they were just part of the playground equipment!

Face Painting. Kinsey got a unicorn, Kaitlyn a pink puppy.
