Pilot Mountain. We turned a corner, and bam, there it was. Kind of cool. Not quite the Rockies, but we'll take what we can get.
All the kiddos eating breakfast
When I was at the bathrooms, I noticed a flyer for a church service at the park which promised to be kid friendly. Since we were there on a Sunday, we decided to check it out. Um...the kids liked it, I think. The guys didn't even come. I think my desire (if it existed) to witness at North Carolina mountain style church has been fulfilled. The family was very sweet, very dedicated (they've been doing this for years), and very nice to the kids. I don't think we'll be joining them for services again though, at least not anytime soon.
The puppet show was very interesting. We were their only audience by this point (aside from their own children). They loaded our kids up with all sorts of toys and trinkets to take home, including neon green crosses which they all wore with pride.
We went on a hike. We had 5 kids and it was hot so it was a very short hike. We had to take a picture of all the happy, smiling kids who were so happy to be outside in the sunshine.
There were a couple of birds flying around and one of the kids said it looked like they were playing tag. All Kaitlyn heard was "bird" and "tag" and she seemed to think that the birds had stolen her Tag Reader. She kept yelling, "Hey bird! Give me back my hag!"
Family picture, almost a good one too! If only Kaitlyn had looked at the camera...
Another little hike

Messy S'more faces
These girls have so much fun together!
Kaitlyn LOVED washing her hands, of course, it's pretty much her favorite thing to do.
As soon as we got to our camping spot, I turned off all technology. We still had cell phone service, and batteries and ways to charge everything, but we were camping, darn it! They stayed off and weren't missed at all. But the last night the big kids were playing in the tent. Kaitlyn was filthy and tends to destroy everything in her path, so I didn't let her go in. She was sad so I broke out the Leapster and she reluctantly played it around the campfire. We were almost free of technology for one whole weekend...
I think my favorite part of the trip was watching the kids just play. I came across Kaitlyn pretending that a rock was a baby and she covered it up with a leaf. We all came home refreshed and happy, and can't wait to go back (again, just not in the summer).
