Sick Kids

Last Tuesday Kinsey woke up feeling sick and got worse and worse as the day went on. Kinsey rarely gets sick, and if she does, is usually only down for a day. Whatever this bug was lasted for 3 days. I'm pretty sure it is the same thing Kaitlyn had the week before. In Kaitlyn's case, it lasted for almost 2 weeks and happened to coincide with an audiology appointment. She had lots of fluid in her ears, and as a result, didn't test so well when they were checking her hearing. She heard 20 decibels less than she usually hears (in her good ear). At least we hope it is due to the fluid and not additional hearing loss (which is totally, totally possible and almost expected with CMV). We've scheduled a follow-up appointment with our audiolgost as well as a visit with our ENT to make sure So, if you get a chance, please say a prayer for our sweet Kaitlyn that it was fluid causing the problem and not new loss. With CMV, if hearing starts to go, it almost always (like 95% of the time) goes all the way.

Back to the sick kids. Kaitlyn was sick forever with massive double ear infections and probably strep throat. After the hearing test, we took her off of amoxicillin and put her on super charged antibiotics. After 10 days of having a fever and feeling yucky, she finally got better. Kinsey's fever was super high and she kept having pains in different parts of her body. She finally freaked me out enough to take her to the pediatrician--her 5th sick visit of her entire life. She also took a nap. Kinsey DOES NOT NAP. Ever. She sleeps a rock at night, but quit napping before she turned 3 and has never looked back. She is so stubborn about this. But on Tuesday, she slept for hours. She does NOT believe me that she fell asleep, and is completely confident that she was awake the entire afternoon...

She started feeling better as we were driving to the doctors office (of course). In the car, after being in a feverish haze all day, she looked down and said, "Why am I am my pajamas???" Kinsey also had an ear infection (her first one since she was 18 months old) and also got a prescription for amoxicillin. Which made her throw up. Awesome.

Both girls are completely healthy again, thank goodness. I am ready for spring! Despite our very mild winter, we've had some nasty germs this year!

Kinsey, sleeping away
