My parents wanted an update so here goes...

Kaitlyn had an appointment with her infectious disease doctor yesterday. I knew there was a chance that she would be taken off her medicine and I wasn't so sure how I felt about that. Most kiddos with CMV are only treated for 6 weeks (if at all), though 6 months is becoming more standard. We had originally planned on 6 months. However, her treatment has been so sporadic due to the side effects that she hasn't really received 6 months worth. Anyways, her doctor wants to keep her on it. He told me that he wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do (comforting huh?) but he feels that we should. I also emailed the leading CMV research in the country and he agreed that she should be left on it as well. There is basically NO research that indicates the best length of treatment time. The medicine is too new and every child so different. In any case, I feel good about keeping her on. Even though it means I have to keep giving her shots...

Kaitlyn had another appointment today with her pediatric opthamalogist. He told me that her eyes look "perfect." No sign of infection at all. He had been concerned about a slight misalignment he had noticed in her eyes when she was younger (something very common and normal in young babies), but it has now corrected itself. So, very good news! We don't have to go back for 2 years. We were also released from neurology, unless Kaitlyn starts having seizures (scary). We are slowly taking names off our long list of specialists.

Kaitlyn is doing good. She hates lying down and tries so hard to sit up anytime she is on her back. She is even trying to turn over from her back to her tummy (sometimes). She loves watching Kinsey and has recently started passing toys from one hand to another (this is HUGE!) and is attempting to put her binky back in her mouth after she yanks it out. She has recently gotten VERY loud and is very good at making her needs known.

Kinsey is Kinsey. She is so full of life; she can go from extremely happy to completely heartbroken so quickly that I am often confused as to what went wrong. She lives "big" and takes joy in so many seemingly simple things. The other day when we were at an appointment Kaitlyn was sleeping when the doctor came in. I asked him if I should wake up Kaitlyn, but before he could answer, Kinsey threw off the blanket that was covering Kaitlyn's carseat and yelled, "WAKE UP KAITLYN!" She then turned to the doctor and said, calmly, "I woke her up for you." The doctor just laughed when Kaitlyn's eyes popped open and said, "Well, at least we know she can still hear." Kinsey loves "helping" with just about anything that is isn't asked to do and thoroughly enjoys entertaining Kaitlyn. She has also taken to telling me, "Yes, sir!" when I ask her questions."

So, there you go. An update. And here's a picture of the girls. Kaitlyn is wrapped up in that pink blanket. Kinsey told me that she was "turning her into a princess." Of course.
