Kaitlyn is one month old today. She has now been home longer than she was in the hospital . A few things about the girl...

  • She LOVES her binky. She's had one since day 1 in the NICU. I am fine with this because first of all, I think binky's are great. Second of all, she has all kinds of tests and blood draws and she is easily soothed with it. However, it does make life hard at night when she cries every time it falls out. Kinsey loves putting it in Kaitlyn's mouth, though she pretty much just stuffs it in.
  • She sleeps best when swaddled. Kinsey was the same way. Kaitlyn is finally strong enough to work her little arms out of her swaddle but she she only does that when she is waking up.
  • She is stubborn.
  • She is getting more vocal. When she was first born she was very quiet and did not cry often or loudly. As she has grown and gotten stronger, she has become quite noisy. She makes little noises all day long and has a healthy cry.
  • Her neck is strong for such a little girl. She and Kinsey do tummy time together (Kinsey calls it the "tummy game").
  • She loves to be held. Right now I am typing with one hand because she didn't want me to put her down.
  • Most nights she sleeps pretty well and sleeps in between feedings.
  • I still have to wake her up most of the time to get her to eat, she eats about every 3 hours.
  • She spits up a lot. Kinsey hardly ever did. But it's getting less frequent as she grows.
  • She still wears preemie clothes and newborn sized diapers. She has very little fat on her body but she is pretty solid.
  • She likes taking a bath.
  • She will nurse but prefers a bottle.
  • Her hair is getting longer and her eyes are blue (for now).
  • She is taking an anti-viral medicine to help her body shed the CMV. She sucks it down like a pro. They told me it is mostly sugar. In the NICU, they gave her a sucrose solution when they were doing any painful or invasive procedures. She is doomed to have a sweet tooth. But with Jason for her dad, she was doomed anyways.
We are so grateful that she is doing so well. She is such a perfect addition to our family. Kinsey still loves her like crazy and her first question every morning is, "Where is Taitlyn?" In the picture below, Kinsey thought Kaitlyn was cold so she covered her with every burp cloth she could find.

She is just perfect in every way. I can't believe it's been a month already!

She is so tinny! I can't believe it. My boys are almost 4.5 pounds right now, and they are still in me. Wow.

Yeah, I like 3 yearolds. Babys are fun to look at for a minute or two but as soon as they puke up something on me, poop or start crying it gets old. Don't get me wrong I have 5 kids but I would prefer then to start out at 3. After all, I am not the one who has to deliver a 3 yearold.

I am very happy that she is so healthy and doing so good. One thing my Krislyn would love to have is a baby sister.
