The Trip-Day 1

A few weeks ago we flew to New Mexico for a wedding and a chance to see our families. We decided to fly in the afternoon/evening thinking that the girls would fall asleep on the way there (plus this way Jason would still be able to go to work in the morning and get paid for that day). Our plans kind of back fired when Jason came home from work the day before we left very sick. We were planning on bringing his laptop so that the girls could watch movies on the plane. But because he was sick, he didn't go into work--and he had left the laptop cord at work. So, no laptop. At least not the one that had a DVD player in it. We decided to take his little laptop with no DVD player and put a digital copy of some movies on it.

We managed to get packed and sick Jason limped along to the airport (sorry to all our fellow travelers for all the germs he spread. But when you pay that much for tickets, you kind of have to go anyways). We waited in the security line for awhile, only to get sent back to ticketing because they sky cap guys hadn't given us a boarding pass for Kaitlyn. Then I had to convince the lady that Kaitlyn really was under 2 years old (seriously, she looks like she is 1) because we didn't have a birth certificate. We finally made it to our gate just as they were boarding.

The trip was fine...for the first 5 minutes. Kinsey did great, but Kaitlyn was awful. Not really her fault, she just wanted to get down. She screamed and squirmed and yelled and giggled and threw food and basically did all the things annoying kids of airplanes do. We decided to start a movie only to find out that the digital copies we had didn't work with the program Jason had on the laptop we brought. So, Jason paid $5 to get WiFi on the plane (pretty cool by the way) so he could down load a program. Why we didn't just pull up a Netflix video, I'll never know. I think Jason's brain was boiling because of his fever and mine was scrambled because of Kaitlyn's screaming. Jason worked and worked and downloaded for over an hour--all with me trying desperately to entertain two girls. Finally the download was done--only to find out that it still wouldn't work. We finally got smart and turned on a movie, but by that point, the battery was almost dead and we only had about 15 minutes. It was the only 15 minutes of peace on the 4 hour flight.

We landed in Denver and caught another plane to Albuquerque. It was past the girls bedtime but they were still going strong. They were soooo silly and loud on this flight, giggling and laughing--which was better than screaming. We finally made it in Albuquerque where Jason's sister picked us up.

We were so glad to be done. But as I was trying to get the girls to bed, I realized that one of the suitcases we picked up at the airport was not ours. Luckily, I was able to get a hold of the people it belonged to and we switched them back that night.

I've always gotten compliments on how well my children travel on planes. Not this trip. Well, there was one lady that told Kinsey she did a nice job singing. Only it wasn't Kinsey who was singing. It was me. Awesome.

One very short happy moment
