Flu Shot

Yesterday I took Kinsey to get a flu shot. I was a little nervous about it, she hasn't had any shots since she was 18 months old and I didn't know how she would react (she's a bit dramatic). I decided that I should prepare her for what was coming while we drove there so that she wouldn't freak out in the doctor's office. I told her that we were going to go to an appointment and that she was going to to a little shot, but it would only hurt for a minute, and then I would give her some M&M's. She was not happy about his and completely fell apart. She cried and cried and said, "But Mom, I'm not sick!" I tried to explain that the shot would keep her from getting sick but she just didn't get it. She kept saying, "But I don't want a little owie! Please Mom, I don't want to go!"
Did I mention she is dramatic???

We finally made it to the office and I took her out of her carseat. She just stood there (in the rain) and wouldn't move. I ended up dragging her into the office with one hand and holding Kaitlyn's carseat in the other. We checked in and Kinsey went and played with the toys in the waiting room, completely forgetting why we were there. They called her name and a look of dread came over her face. She walked a little ways and then stopped again. The nurses all know us now (we are there a lot for Kaitlyn) and they just felt so bad for her. Kinsey started crying, sobbing really, and I again had to drag her down the hallway. We made it to our room and the nurse said, "Well, since she is two and has no respiratory or heart problems, she can have the vaccine that she just sniffs up her nose if you'd like." Seriously? I just went through all of that for nothing? I almost said to do the shot just to make all the dramatics worth it, but I'm not that mean. So in the end, all Kinsey had to do was sniff after the nurse put a few drops of the vaccine in her nose.

As we left the office, Kinsey looked up at me while she was eating her M&M's and said, "That was fun Mom!"

Thanks for visiting my blog. Your family is beautiful! Kaitlyn sure seems to be doing well for the rough start she had. It certainly seems like you are on top of everything, which is good. Emma was born asymptomatic, but still she has issues. Keep on top of the hearing. Even with one ear hearing loss you should start to get help from the Teacher of the Deaf NOW. Ask your early intervention coordinator to set that up if you haven't already done so. Good luck!

She got you. It was tricky, she was so dramatic...But I am glad that she thought it was fun for her.
Ren hardly ever cry for any shots, even notice sometime.
I assume that his cute chubby skin protects him from lots of pain.

Thanks for the cute photo of Kaitlyn!
We love it!
