Christmas Questions

My cousin Jessica sent me this fun email, and since I have time now that finals are done, I figured I would just post my answers on here. Merry Christmas!

1.Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both. I like wrapping presents for Kinsey because she loves the bows and the paper. She could usually care less about the gifts. I don't know why we keep buying her things...

2. Real tree or artificial? Before I was married we usually had a real tree that we went and cut down. My brothers always wanted the biggest tree that would possibly fit in the house and we ended up with more of a giant Christmas bush. Jason and I have a fake tree and I like that it is pretty and symmetrical. I also like that there are no needles for our very curious one year old to eat. But I miss the smell of a real tree...Oh, I don't know! I like them both.

3. When do you put up the tree & decorate? We did it soon after Thanksgiving this year. We don't really have a set date. It still isn't decorated because finals got in the way of the rest of our lives. We are decorating it tomorrow.

4. Favorite gift received as a child? Hum...one year we got a air hockey table which was fun. Nothing else really sticks out.

5. Do you like eggnog? Yes, but one or two cups per year is usually enough.

6. Do you like Hot Buttered Rum? I don't drink, but it doesn't sound too great.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes! My mother-in-law gave me the Willow Tree set last year and I love it! I have a few others too, but they aren't out this year. I have less decorating space, again due to a very curious one year old.

8. Hardest person to buy for? Jason, actually.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail...who emails them?

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Um...I'm not sure.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? A Christmas Story or Elf.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Close to Thanksgiving, though we did buy a few things earlier this year.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Not that I can remember, though I'm not against it.

15. Favorite Christmas Treat? Merry Cherry Bars

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear

17. Favorite Christmas song? O Holy Night

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Usually we stay home. But this year we are traveling to New Mexico. When we have older kids, we will stay home.

19. Favorite Christmas Family Tradition? My Uncle Dave making Enchiladas on Christmas Eve and then all the cousins and siblings on the couch squished watching A Christmas Story. Plus the fire alarm going off and Jessie standing in the hall waving a towel and the door being open to air out the house. Then we finally have the brilliant ideal to take the batteries out of the fire alarm. Seriously, this happens ever year.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Star

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Christmas morning. This year we are doing our own little Christmas before going down to NM, so it will be like the 20th. Weird.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? All the traffic when we go shopping. And the silly people who don't like it when someone says Merry Christmas.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color? Hum...we just have a random assortment of ornaments. Someday I want a theme tree though.

24. Favorite full Christmas dinner? We always had ham growing up. Then I got pregnant with Kinsey and hated ham. Now I like it again. So, ham I guess.

25. When do you take the tree/decorations down? Whenever Kinsey is napping:)

Kinsey noticed some guys moving furniture outside of our apartment. Some had taken their shirts off and she asked me why. I told her that they were probably hot and explained that sometimes guys take their shirts off outside but that girls shouldn't and figured that would be the end of the conversation. But a little while later she saw the guys outside again and said, "Them boys took off their shirts. They're HOT!"

The other day Kinsey told me that when she gets older, she will be angry. I later asked her what she thought the word angry means. She said, "It means I be soooo tall!" I don't know how that one got so mixed up...

Kinsey and I took a walk to take some things to the recycling bins. She usually brings her stroller and a doll or two but didn't ask to this time. When we were halfway to the recycling bins, she stopped in her tracks and said, "Oh my! We forgot mine stroller!"

-I was trying to explain that we didn't need the lights on because it was sunny outside. Kinsey finally kind of caught on and said, "We don't need the lights, the sun is on!"

I was getting ready in the bathroom, a room with no windows, and Kinsey told me, "Mommy, we don't need lights, the sun is on!"
-And finally into this:
Me: Kinsey, you don't need the light on, the sun is on.
Kinsey: No, the moon is on.
(She's two, so she argues everything of course)

Kinsey poked herself in the eye today and kept crying about it. Apparently I didn't comfort her good enough because she kept saying "See Cole!" (our friend Nicole). I kept telling her that we couldn't go see Nicole right now and she finally said, "Get in car and see Cole!"

We were walking around the neighborhood this evening and Kinsey spotted a dog and wanted to say hi. The dog lay down and Kinsey said "Upside woof-woof down!" (upside down dog)

I was telling Jason how well Kinsey was doing learning her colors. I mentioned that she knows the color white. Jason said, "She knows white?" Kinsey, very confidently, broke into the conversation and said "I know white." We just looked at each other. It was her first "real" sentence that she thought up all on her own. She's growing up too fast.

Kinsey and I were taking a walk around the neighborhood when she spotted a dog, or a "woof woof" as she calls it. We went over to say hi and the dog touched her hand with his nose. Kinsey looked at her hand then said "eww" and wiped her hand on her shorts.
